On Sunday, July 27, 2025, we said our last goodbye to our beloved Penny as she crossed the rainbow bridge onto her next adventure. At 8 years old, she was diagnosed with kidney disease, but it did not slow her down as she was with us for 11-1/2 years. We got Penny in March of 2014 for our daughter's emotional support after the West Fertilizer Plant Explosion. From the moment we saw her, we knew she was perfect. She had the most expressive eyes and ears and the most beautiful straight, white teeth. You could always tell what she was thinking just from her ears that we always thought she would grow into and never did. Her tail was a tiny nub so that when she wagged it, her whole butt would wiggle, thus getting the name "Wiggle Butt". Our vet even had a hard time taking her temperature because her nub was so small, there was nothing to hold onto and she would tuck her little nub down so tightly. For such a little girl, she had a huge voice that could echo in and out of the house, especially when she demanded a treat.
She was, in one word, EXTRA . She was all about theatrics, throwing her head around with grunts and whines when needing to be covered up with a blanket or just to have someone sit on the couch with her. Not only this, but she was all about order and routine. When being fed, everything had to be done in a certain order or she'd refuse to eat. Her internal clock was extraordinary, letting everyone know when to wake up, eat, go to town, or go to sleep. One of her favorite activities was to "go on a visit" which was code for going on a drive around town. She loved taking in all the sights and smells West had to offer.
She was the most affectionate girl, always giving us kisses and pressing her face against us as to give us hugs. When we entered the room, she would smile by showing all her teeth and wiggling her butt. She would "bop" us with her nose to get our attention, which she always wanted. Penny loved BIG, and if you were lucky enough to know her, you would feel that love forever. We made the heartbreaking decision to have her euthanized in the comfort of our home and we know she is looking down on us to make sure everything is on time and in order. Here is a picture of her the day we picked her up and the day before we said goodbye.
