Bella

Bella, our namesake Yorkie, was a wonderful member of our family and lived as a true lapdog, even if her breed is better known for their energy. While she may have looked like a diva, she provided a calming presence that is unmatched, and we feel her absence every day. You could always find Bella perched on top of her favorite decorative pillow in our living room, ready to accept pets or to be picked up and brought to the bed for cuddles. She was a companion in every definition of the word and we take some solace knowing she is just across the rainbow bridge, forever in our hearts.

Rest easy Bella, we love you!

Jake

Jake was our little old man and an amazing friend. He passed on July 25th, 2024, due to increasing complications with lymphoma. He was rescued as a 1 year old beagle, and spent the next 16 years of his life keeping his family company through it all. Over time he learned to love going on walks and making friends with dogs and cats, and he brought so much peace to our home. Anytime you’d come back from an outing, the first thing you’d hear would be Jake’s nails clacking across the hardwood floors as he hustled to greet you. We miss Jakey Boy every day and are lucky to have spent many wonderful years with him.

Maddie Mae blessed us with 10 years of love. She spent many years spreading love at Western Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation to many of the residents and staff. She was a natural service dog to many. She just knew when you needed a pick me up. She was truly a gentle giant. We will miss her so very much.

Bentley

2008-2025

To my Gentle Giant:
You were the sweetest of them all! Our sons best friend, the perfect fishing buddy,  and the best big brother we’ve ever known.  Your snuggles will be forever missed. Your hot nose pressed against us in the hot summer days will never be forgotten. Spread your heavenly love to our Mollie dog for us. Don’t forget to huff just because. We’ll see you sooner than later big boy. We love you!

Maxwell

Xena, was one of two girls that are my soul-dogs. I rescued her when she was just a few weeks old with her sister, Athena and since then we have been together. I had to make the hard choice to put her to rest on 6/5/25. She was 11 years old, and until the tumor took over, she still acted like a puppy. She loved to bark at everything, was obsessed with cheese balls and never stopped thinking she was a lap dog even though she was 50lbs most of her life. She loved harder than any dog I have ever met and took protecting me and my son very seriously.  I say that I rescued her, but she saved me. My life is better for having her in it and I am so grateful for the time I had with her.

Ranger

A Tribute to Ranger

Our Guardian. Our Wild Heart. Our Forever Friend.

Ranger was not just a dog— He was a force of nature. A proud Husky and Wolf mix, he carried the spirit of the wild in his bones and the gentleness of love in his heart.

With eyes that seemed to hold ancient wisdom and a presence that made you feel safe no matter what, Ranger stood watch over our home and hearts with quiet strength. He wasn’t just loyal—he was devoted, not out of obedience, but out of love.

His wild roots made him independent, bold, and wise. Yet he chose us. He gave us his trust, his companionship, his fierce protection—and in return, we gave him our hearts.

Ranger was a protector of his pack. A quiet shadow in the night. A friend who listened without words, and loved without limits. He lived with freedom in his spirit and tenderness in his soul.

Thirteen years wasn’t long enough, but in those years, he gave us a lifetime of memories—of watchful eyes, strong paws beside us, and a bond deeper than words.

Now he runs with the wind, where his spirit is wild and free once more. But he is never gone. He is in the rustle of leaves, the hush of the forest, the silence that still feels safe.

Run free, Ranger.
You will always be our wild protector,
Our once-in-a-lifetime companion.
Our heart.

Penny

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, we said our last goodbye to our beloved Penny as she crossed the rainbow bridge onto her next adventure.  At 8 years old, she was diagnosed with kidney disease, but it did not slow her down as she was with us for 11-1/2 years.  We got Penny in March of 2014 for our daughter's emotional support after the West Fertilizer Plant Explosion.  From the moment we saw her, we knew she was perfect.  She had the most expressive eyes and ears and the most beautiful straight, white teeth.  You could always tell what she was thinking just from her ears that we always thought she would grow into and never did.  Her tail was a tiny nub so that when she wagged it, her whole butt would wiggle, thus getting the name "Wiggle Butt".  Our vet even had a hard time taking her temperature because her nub was so small, there was nothing to hold onto and she would tuck her little nub down so tightly.  For such a little girl, she had a huge voice that could echo in and out of the house, especially when she demanded a treat.

She was, in one word, EXTRA .  She was all about theatrics, throwing her head around with grunts and whines when needing to be covered up with a blanket or just to have someone sit on the couch with her.  Not only this, but she was all about order and routine.  When being fed, everything had to be done in a certain order or she'd refuse to eat.  Her internal clock was extraordinary, letting everyone know when to wake up, eat, go to town, or go to sleep.  One of her favorite activities was to "go on a visit" which was code for going on a drive around town.  She loved taking in all the sights and smells West had to offer.

She was the most affectionate girl, always giving us kisses and pressing her face against us as to give us hugs.  When we entered the room, she would smile by showing all her teeth and wiggling her butt.  She would "bop" us with her nose to get our attention, which she always wanted.  Penny loved BIG, and if you were lucky enough to know her, you would feel that love forever.  We made the heartbreaking decision to have her euthanized in the comfort of our home and we know she is looking down on us to make sure everything is on time and in order. Here is a picture of her the day we picked her up and the day before we said goodbye.
